Principal's Notes 17 June 2019
The staff at Pond Cove sincerely thank you for sharing your children with us this year. We are so proud of our safe, respectful and responsible young citizens. Our Peaceful Pond Cove paper chain has stretched across the entire building and back down to the lobby area again. To celebrate, all staff and students will enjoy a brief school-wide dance party on Tuesday afternoon in their classrooms. It’s time to boogie!
I have reshared information on student report cards below. You will be able to access your child’s report card on the evening of June 19 via the PowerSchool parent portal.
Have a safe and fun summer. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

Habits of Work
In researching desired characteristics in the workplace, the Maine State Department of Education learned that most employers place a high emphasis on employee work habits and ability to work with others effectively. Although our students are very young, our staff understands the importance of students acquiring these skills early in their educational career. Our Responsive Classroom and Peaceful Pond Cove programing supports students as they develop positive work habits. At the K-4 level, we are working to build the foundation for long-term work habits that will serve your child well throughout his/her school career and beyond. New this year, we have consistent Habits of Work and an accompanying grading scale for all K-4 students at Pond Cove.
Pond Cove K-4 Habits of Work Learning Targets

Academic Learning Targets
Pond Cove staff are dedicated to ensuring that all students achieve grade-level specific academic learning targets in reading, writing, math, social studies, science and the allied arts by the end of each school year. The academic section of the report card will show your child’s progress toward these learning targets. It is important to emphasize that all targets reflect end-of-year expectations. Therefore, for academic progress reporting, a 1 or 2 is the norm for most children during the winter reporting period. A 3 or 4 are more commonly seen on the end-of-year progress report.
Your child’s progress toward end-of-year academic learning targets for their grade level will be reflected using the following scale:
